Year 2008 was amazing for me – “travel”-wise! I visited:
- Sindri in Bihar
- Jamshedpur in Jharkhand
- Surat and Baroda in Gujarat
- Pune, Solapur, Amravathi, Aurangabad and Nagpur in Maharashtra
I am happy 2009 started well too – “travel-wise!” 🙂
I was at Mandarmoni with 3 of my friends in the weekend just gone by. Mandarmani is a virgin beach in the East Midnapore district of West Bengal. It took us over 5 hours to cover the 165 Kms between Kolkata and Mandarmani. It is actually supposed to take only around 3.5 – 4 hours but thanks to traffic congestion, road repairs and a deluge of weekend-revellers meant, we managed to stretched it! To find detailed directions on how to get there, click here!
What I really liked about Mandarmani is its virgin nature! 😉 .. It is pollution-free, non-commercial (at least not yet!), is amidst very natural surroundings and even on a “long weekend” (23rd – 26th January with 26th being a Monday), we had enough private space on the beach – even though each of the 8-odd resorts in Mandarmani were full . Just gives you the feeling that it is an “ideal” get-away for people wanting to avoid the hustle and bustle of Kolkata’s city life and the Digha beach!
I regret not carrying my camera along – for more reasons that one! Anyway, found some pictures on the Wikitravel link for Mandarmani. Just thought I’d share! 🙂
